


KiWiGen patented system that uses wind energy using some sort of wind kites.
The wind on the earth produces a quantity 'of energy hundreds of times higher than the needs of humanity today'.
However little of this energy and 'now exploitable because it takes place in the troposphere, at altitudes well above those reached by normal wind turbines. Indeed
to 80 meters, the height that usually have wind turbines, the wind speed is slightly higher than 4 meters per second and, when you reach this minimum, they are turned off, making it an uneconomical choice.
Physics teaches us however that the energy is greater the faster the wind blows and the ideal value is around 800 meters with a speed of 7.6 meters per second.
After all, who has never used a kite knows how the wind can pull, so that in recent years has been very popular kite surfing, a sport that makes the sea, where large kites support and transport the athletes. Indeed, it seems that the kites are specially built for this sport inefficient, so that take away the surfer.
The idea is taken from the meeting Massimo Ippolito, owner of a kite surfer and automated systems as a hobby, and Mario Milanese, Professor of Automatic Control at the Politecnico di Torino, and has matured to the possibility of using different the energy of the wind created by these KiteGen the project, designed to make the most of this energy.

Each kite, similar to those used for kite surfing and is supported by a pair of high-strength cables from 3 mm in diameter, over a thousand meters long, which control the direction and angle of flight. When the kite soar into action two cylinders, whose motion generates energy as a kind of dynamo.

The new system does not need, therefore, large areas to be installed, it seems that will be sufficient if only one hundred square meters. In this way should be overcome all the problems of visual and environmental impact that have generated many questions on the exploitation of wind energy.
KiteGen system is also characterized by great flexibility because it is adjustable to different heights, depending on where the wind blows harder.
The automatic guidance system allows then to make them work at night. Again, to avoid impact with flocks of birds is a radar that will redirect kites within seconds.
KiteGen, is still at the prototype, but its inventors claim that its development may produce the same amount of energy of a nuclear power plant. It is not
the only project in the world to work on energy generated from kites. Similar studies are being made, in fact, in Holland and California.
