Ford bet the electric

Invested $ 450 million, begins with the Detroit Transit

28/01/2010 - Ford has decided to invest 450 million dollars for the electric car. Will serve to prepare an offensive product in the field of dual petrol / electric, including the production of lithium-ion battery. Surprising as it is moved production from Mexico to Michigan, where Ford has always resides (with the other big U.S. houses) and that will create about a thousand new jobs. The start of production of modern batteries and new hybrid vehicles is expected 2012. Currently, Ford already sells in North America 4 electric vehicles: sedans Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan twins and the Escape and Mercury Mariner SUVs.

"This investment underlines the seriousness of our commitment in the field of electric vehicles - hybrids, plug-in hybrids and pure electric - combining the three key issues in the world today: the economy, energy and environment," said President Bill Ford jr. For Michigan, the heart of American car, it is a vital shot in the arm, which is coupled with another investment group announced: the $ 550 million to produce the new Focus, by the end of this' year, and other C-segment, converting the current production of large SUVs, still on the market less attractive to stars and stripes. In support of the commitment the government intervened, however, is Ford of Michigan, whose Department of Economic Development has provided a package of tax relief for 188 million dollars.

Ford's future there are many hybrid models that should begin within the next three years. They range from best-selling Focus, which aims to challenge both electric Toyota Prius, to the Transit Connect commercial vehicle range. The latter should indeed be the first to start (towards the end of 2010) and with the autonomy of 130 miles fully charged battery compartment of the scombussolerà commercial vans. Ready in 2012, the future electricity Focus instead promises a range of 160 km with only the power supply (which adds that afforded from gasoline), also a harbinger of zero emissions.
